The Grand Marais Harbor of Refuge Inner Lighthouse

Perched along the Lake Superior shoreline in Grand Marais, Michigan, the Grand Marais Harbor of Refuge Lighthouses are two historic towers still guiding ships today. Just off H-58, follow Canal Street to reach the Light Keeper’s House Museum, where gravel parking is available nearby. The site includes both the Inner and Outer lighthouses, built in the late 1800s. The Inner Lighthouse, established in 1898, is a 55-foot white square tower topped with a lantern and remains active to this day. The original keeper’s dwelling now serves as a seasonal museum operated by the Grand Marais Historical Society, open to visitors from June through September. The Outer Lighthouse, standing at 34 feet, completes this duo of historic maritime landmarks.
