The Munising Front Range Lighthouse, located at the intersection of M-28 and Hemlock Street in Munising, was established in 1908 to help ships safely navigate the narrow East Channel into Munising Bay. Standing 58 feet tall and constructed of steel, this active white-painted tower emits a continuous red light that aligns with the Munising Rear Range Light to guide vessels through the harbor. The two lights work in tandem to create precise focal planes at 79 and 107 feet above Lake Superior. While the lighthouse tower is currently closed to the public, the surrounding grounds—featuring a historic 1½-story brick building used by the park service—are open for visitors. Restoration efforts for the lighthouse are currently underway.
